It's really sad seeing what being a JW does to some people's minds.

What is up with the obesity doctrine?
by kzjw ini'm a ubm, and the wife went to the assembly.
she didn't discuss the obesity issue with me, but my mother-in-law is obese.
so i'm just wondering how that would make her feel?

Imagine the cruelty telling a Slave you are no longer one of Jehovahs because of a weight problem.
I think I need to eat more doughnuts.

Did YOU "Do More!" & Yet Feel Worse?
by minimus ineveryone was always being told, "do more" and you'll feel better!
if you're depressed, simply do more!
if your life trying to be a good jw was getting to you, you were admonished to stop thinking about your problems and just do more!

Doing more is just a way to get you not to think.
Correct. I am fed up of hearing of people who have candida, allergies, chronic fatigue etc. This is a phenomenon peculiar to JW's. In the world it's called depression. People get counselling, some tablets and address the issue. I see a lot of frantically busy, depressed JW's in our cong.

Jehovah's Witnesses can celebrate Christmas now!
by sacolton in... birthdays too!.
well, not yet, but if the governing body decides that it's okay to celebrate christmas and birthdays .... how do you suppose the typical jw would feel ... especially those who lived their whole life being told to not celebrate and.
wishing they could?.

Ignoring the fact that this would never happen since New Light is only ever needed to explain the embarassing delay of Armageddon, I think most would not celebrate. It's like the blood fraction thing, most think it's the sign of spiritual weakness to accept fractions so would refuse.

Faders
by Awakened at Gilead ini'm new to this board but i see many term themselves as faders.
i may just fade away, but on the other hand, i went ahead and told the elders that i don't believe in the wts garbage anymore.
1914, fds, al of it, i told them, is "rubbish" (i didn't want to say bs in the kh).

You are right. Unfortunately most of us have family at stake.
I would love to know how many others there are out there like you and me.
Some day someone will come up with an ingenious way for us to "go public" without identifying ourselves.

Witness Kids - Scared silly by the WTBTS
by misspeaches ini wonder if anyone else who grew up as a jw can relate with me on this subject.. i grew up hearing stories of 'faithful brothers & sisters' being tortured to a point where they were almost dead.
all they had to do to be set free was renounce jehovah and their religon.
the stories i heard of torture were graphic in nature and to this day i can not handle hearing about torture or watch it being portrayed in movies.

Yes. I grew up in the era when the persecution in Malawi was going on and I remember very graphic details being discussed from the platform. I can't even bring myself to relate the specifics here now. Definitely not suitable subject material for children. I also had recurring nightmares about being in a concentration camp. I had all my hair shaved and there were rats all around me. I was told to renounce my being a witness, when I refused they cut me in half and put my legs on the wrong way round. I know that sounds stupid but as a child that was a terrifying fear of mine.

Helping others in the same crisis?
by Mickey mouse inif there was someone else in your cong you were pretty sure was going through the same thing how may you help them without identifying yourself?
i realise this all sounds rather orwellian, lol, but i feel compelled to help this poor young person in some way.

Not really in a position to befriend them (married woman, teenage boy and all ). Any ideas?
